The heated environment (around 40°C, with controlled humidity and efficient air ventilation) is central to Bikram Yoga. This heat:
Increases your heart rate, stimulating the cardiovascular system.
Increases the body’s ability to eliminate waste products, including through the skin, which is initiated by sweating.
Safely warms the muscles, promoting deep and gentle stretching of the tissue.
Decreases the viscosity of the blood, supporting better blood circulation and lowering blood pressure.
Reorganises lipids (fats) in the muscular structure.

Through practising in these conditions, you learn to breathe steadily and remain focussed during class, building mental resilience that you will apply to everyday life.
If the heat creates extreme discomfort for you, just 4 consecutive days of yoga classes will increase your tolerance for the conditions.

A yoga mat - bring your own, or mats are available for rent.
A bath-size towel – to place on the yoga mat. Towels are also available for rent.
Water - be well-hydrated before you arrive and have your water bottle with you during class.
Wear light and comfortable clothing that you are prepared to sweat in.

The most important thing is to arrive for class well hydrated – so, drink plenty of water before you arrive.

We recommend that your last full meal at least 2-3 hours prior to class.

At least 2-3 classes per week is a great starting point as you establish your wellness regime.

Keep trying the right way and do the best you can. This yoga is suitable for everyone, regardless of age or physical capability. Rest when you feel the need during class. You will learn to listen to your own body and take care of yourself. Coming to class is the first step in taking responsibility for your health and wellbeing – this is empowering!
